Our Body Needs Food or Medicine!
What you choose to eat has a profound effect on your overall health.
When humans were created, a system was already set in place for their existence and survival but, as time changed and evolved, so did humans and so did their system and patterns of livelihood and survival. Researches even show that dietary habits influence the risk of disease in our body. Thus, we believe that “Food is medicine”, yet diet alone cannot replace medicine in all circumstances, though many illnesses and diseases can be prevented, treated or even cured through diet control and lifestyle patterns.
This article explains the medicinal effects of food on our healing system.
Nutrients in food promote health and protect the body from diseases. Nutritious foods along with supplements are important because their unique substances work collaboratively to create an effect that cannot be replicated. Although the body needs small amounts of vitamins and minerals, they are vital for health. However, Western diets that are high in processed foods and low in whole foods like fresh produce are typically deficient in vitamins and minerals which can substantially increase the risk of disease.
For example, insufficient intakes of vitamin C, vitamin D, and Folate may harm the heart, cause immune dysfunction and even increase the risk of certain cancers, respectively.
Nutritious foods, including vegetables, fruits, beans, and grains, boast numerous beneficial compounds, such as antioxidants which protect the cells from damage that may otherwise lead to disease. In fact, studies demonstrate that people whose diets are rich in antioxidants have lower rates of depression, diabetes, dementia, and heart disease.
Even Fiber, Proteins, and Healthy fats are an essential part of a healthy diet. These components help in digestion, aid immune function, muscled synthesis, metabolism, and improved heart respectively.
Dr. Samir Kumar Dhara, MD, Feonnaa Herbals states “medicine is a requirement, for the body, if the above food pattern and system is not followed in our daily life. Proper dietary food prevents the rise of any illness and diseases while medicine cures. An intellectual and knowledgeable individual will always prefer to prevent rather than cure any illness or disease. Medicine is only an option for severe unavoidable circumstances which is beyond the control of food diets”. Dr. Dhara even stated “God created humans as well as animals, but do we see animals eating medicines?
The statement clearly indicates that simple food habits can keep us alive and healthy.
To live a healthy and medicine-free life, please follow food diets, and for better results consult a nutritionist.
